Joyce M. Nations, O.D.
Dr. Joyce M. Nations received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, School of Optometry in 1993. She also received her Masters degree in Public Health from the University of Alabama in 1993 and her Bachelor of Science degree from North Georgia College and State University in 1989.
Dr. Nations has been in private family practice since 1993 with office locations in Canton and Dawsonville. Dr. Nations established Cherokee Eye Group in 1993 in Canton, the former practice of Dr. J.R. Raines and established Dawson Eye Group in 1998. She is an active member of the Canton Lions Club, Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce. She is also an active member of the American Optometric Association, Georgia Optometric Association and the Ninth District Optometric Society. Dr. Nations is currently serving as President of the Georgia Optometric Association. She has served as the vice president, treasurer, secretary and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the GOA. Also as the Membership Chair, Elections Chair and HEHP represenative for the state association. She received the GOA "Optometrist of the year" in June 2008.

Leighann Kurth, O.D.
Dr. Kurth graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southern College of Optometry in 2001. She began her Optometry career here at Cherokee Eye Group. She especially enjoys working with children. It is very rewarding for her to examine children before they enter Kindergarden. She likes to know that all children can reach their maximum learning potential by ensuring that their vision and focusing ability is normal functioning. In addition, she also enjoys fitting bifocal contact lenses for 40 year olds who are just now having to wear vision correction for reading.
Dr. Kurth is an active member of the Georgia Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, and Cherokee County Service League. She is licensed in Therapeutics. Her training began at OMNI Eye Center in Atlanta. Additionally, she has gone on to be certified in treating eyes after Lasik surgery and bifocal contact lens fittings. As a native, she attended Cherokee High School and Kennesaw State University. She is the daughter of Randall and Vertie Moody. Dr. Kurth married Karl Kurth who practices in Jasper as a Chiropractor. They have two daughters, Ansley and Kaitlyn.

Angela Icard
Angela Icard, ABOC first began her career in the optical industry in January of 1984. She has worked as an optician full time for a quarter of a century. She has been with Cherokee Eye Group since 1997. As optician her responsibilities include the maintaining of the 600+ frame dispensary as well as the finishing laboratory that is on the premises. She has attended countless continuing education classes throughout the years and has extensive knowledge in every aspect of lens manufacturing and design. She is particularly adept at fitting frames on patients.Angela takes great pride in helping to educate patients about their eyewear choices so that they are able to select the best lenses and frames for their lifestyle. In additional to her optical responsibilities Angela also handles the marketing, advertising, accounts payable and correspondence for Cherokee Eye Group. She has been on the Vision Source Representative Panel for Cherokee Eye Group since 2004.
Angela is a life long resident of Cherokee County. She now lives in Woodstock with her husband Matt, and daughter Brookanna. She is an extremely active member of Unity North Atlanta Church in Marietta.

Kim Aguirre
Kim has been working at Cherokee Eye Group since 1998 as an Opthalmic Technician. She usually floats between the optical department and the pre-testing areas of the office. Occasionally she fills in at our Dawsonville office. Kim also files the insurance claims for the glasses.
Kim is an active member of the Canton Lion's Club. She lives in Holly Springs with her husband Gabe. She has 2 grown sons and 4 grandchildren. She enjoys gardening and being "Mi-Mi" to her grandkids.

Brittany Martin
Brittany, a Certified Paraoptometric, started Cherokee Eye Group in 2005 filing charts. From there, she moved to the front desk verifying insurance, making appointments and answering phones. Since then, Brittany has become our technician. She received her CPO title in 2007 and still attends continuing education courses to further her knowledge in the field. She is also currently working on her second level of certification. As a technician, she assists the doctors with pre-testing, fits contact lenses and has extensive knowledge on all equipment in the office. She has also been trained in the optical area which includes fitting of frames, proper adjustments, repairs and dispensing. Her cross-training helps her assist the staff wherever needed.
Brittany has lived in Canton all of her life. She resides here in Canton with her husband, Cody and daughter, Kalay. She enjoys being outdoors, sports and spending time with her family.

Carol Bishop
Carol started at Cherokee Eye Group in November 2000. She is the appointment coordinator and is also responsible for the patient data input. In addition, she also pre-authorizes all patient insurances so when they arrive at our office there is no delay in them seeing the doctors. She has been trained in most areas of the office, which allows her to assist wherever needed.
Carol resides in Canton with her husband, Louis and their two sons, Tyler and Blake. She enjoys spending time with her family.

Sonja Moore
Sonja Moore first started with Cherokee Eye Group in 1998 after a long carreer in the banking industry. She works at our front desk and is also trained in the back office as well. She tried to retire in 2004, but still fills in for us whenever we need her. When she is not working, she enjoys traveling across country with her husband.
